Sometimes working at a newspaper and being able to turn on my computer every morning and read through the hundreds of daily stories that come into our computer system via the Associated Press wire service can be very depressing. Friday, there was a Los Angeles Times story by Marc Lifsher and Abigail Goldman, titled “Contaminant in pet food is intentional, regulators theorize. Stephen Sundlof, chief veterinarian for the Food and Drug Administration, said melamine, which has turned up in more than 100 brands of cat and dog food, might have been used to falsely boost the apparent nutritional content of rice protein.
