Meeko has continued with acupuncture ever since, most recently at Veterinary Care Specialists in Milford, which began offering the treatment last month with Barb Kintner, DVM and a certified veterinary acupuncturist. Acupuncture is slowly catching on, Kintner said, as more pet owners like McDavid choose this and other alternative veterinary procedures to complement traditional, or “Western-medicine” therapies. Kintner, who has been a veterinarian since 1978 and a certified acupuncturist for the past few months, was a veterinary acupuncture student at the Chi Institute of Chinese Medicine in Florida last year when she learned that veterinarian Julie Hass, co-owner of VCS, was looking for other professionals to help her integrate complimentary therapies at the Milford clinic.
